Sean by the looks of your garden you have taken up an expensive hobby Nice Cycas revoluta and Brahea armata are you planting them straight off or keeping them potted for awhile?

Re: My latest purchases
Tell me about it. . I see all these great plants on here and need them now The brahea is your fault I'd dismissed growing it in the midlands Going to plant the brahea in the ground I think Next to the butia. The cycad I'll keep in the pot but looking at the roots coming out if the bottom it will need potting on, then bring into the greenhouse in winter.

Re: My latest purchases
For me Brahea in a raised bed, plenty of drainage I use pea shingle 10mm, and put it in the sunniest part of your garden most importantly somewhere it will get winter sun all winter.....roof as I mentioned before during the cold months. Chamaerops ceriifera I have planted anywhere but again with decent drainage. I would not bother with fertiliser for a year just to let the roots settle in of their own accord then perhaps Maxicrop seaweed fert

Re: My latest purchases
and stating the obvious, be very careful not to disturb the roots on the Brahea - they REALLY don't like it

Re: My latest purchases
Planted the cerifera out on Sunday. There wasn't much root in the pot, it looks like it was recently potted on.
Emailed the palm centre and still awaiting reply Brought a bottle of palm booster to give it a good start
Getting the holes ready for the butia and brahea and cycad

Re: My latest purchases
A few months down the line, and the lawn is disappearing Brought a couple of waggys in February and planted the other day along with a black bamboo The butia and brahea have had there winter covers removed and look ok. Temp down to -4.7'c this winter with a fair bit of snow. Looking for suggestions for evergreen plants to add to the beds for more backbone structure

Re: My latest purchases
Even in the summer my soil never looks that dry as yours does now. At the moment I am trying everything to make it more free draining but it's still holding too much water in the winter months.
