Re: a walk around my garden
Fabulous Karl is that a large bendy Cyathea australis I see there your garden looks in pristine condition. Love the green lawn it certainly shows off the garden to good effect a man of my own thinking. Another cool low growing fern that would look good on your gravel bit is Blechnum fluvitale ....note to self must have another go at Meconopsis.. Cordyline indivisa is another stand out to you do anything special with it or do you leave it well alone should it not take kindly to you looking at it....lol The last shot with the trunk on the left is that something planted in the trunk?

Re: a walk around my garden
Thank you all for the nice comments.
Kev, the 7' Cyathea australis has done well and gets a lot of sun (when it shines!). The garden was looking well due to an open garden weekend for the RHSI and our own local horticultural society - opening to the public is a great way to remain motivated and go the extra mile to ensure all areas of this third of an acre garden in tidyish. I agree a green lawn shows off the garden to good effect but I am not a lawn lover (two weeks earlier I was concerned as it was very patchy (see photos). I may go for artificial grass someday ............
As for my last remaining Cordyline indivisa ...........I do not wish to talk about it! (for fear of it dying as did my 7' tall one that branched, flowered and two years later died (just dug it up at the weekend and planted a waggie). So, as you suggest the only thing I do special with it is to leave it well alone.
Well spotted, the last shot with the trunk on the left is a very dead 5' yucca rostrata impaled on a tilted 3' steel rod (after it died in 2010 and the root rotted and it fell over). I planted festicularia in the trunk which has done really well and has clumped. See my other smaller dead one in the photo

Re: a walk around my garden
Fantastic garden..many choice plants looking perfect. What type of Schefflera is that?..and is that Rhodo arboreus? The same red Rhodo in Kate's Vid? The name of the Eucalypt? I have the same spreading Blechnum..and its not like that Lucky its still alive after last summer. It is a nice fusion of Exotic,Asian influence and European of a collection and yet, beautiful landscaping. Congrats!

OK, I'm officially jealous. Love the tree ferns. You have a wonderful variety there, even a Meconopsis!

Re: a walk around my garden
Sorry Stan for the slow reply: To answer you questions, got schefflera from a gardener as a very small plant. the red flowered tree is not a rhodo (if that is what you refer to), it is the Chilean fire bush - embothrium coccineum the eucalypt is pauciflora subsp. niphophila, spreading blechnum is penna-marina maybe alpina

Looks great Karl, very mature towards when we last visited. Haven't seen you in Kerry this year - any plans for a trip?
