California hedging materials.
I thought some might be interested in two popular California hedging plants. One is the favorite of Disneyland topiary artists. That would be Syzygium paniculatum a dense and fast growing tree-shrub from Australia. If you look close you can see where the pest insect that invaded California in 1988- a Psyllid - has distorted the leaves. Still a wasp introduced- in Disneyland no less first- has cut the pest down to manageable populations. I noticed regular pruning also would do a number on the mites. The fruit of the Syzygium is supposedly edible..some say eat just slightly too much is poisonous. I pass.
The other is my personal favorite Pittosporum eugenoides. I love the look of them well grown, and these are well grown. As a matter of fact the ground under them was swept clean and covered in moss. No worries about water bills by the ownership.
