On ordering.. IT ARRIVED!
I ordered a Platycerium superbum. Its getting to where it might be better for me to just order more often. Finding what I want this time of my life and experience is getting harder. I'm not complaining about nurseries..we always need them. But,what are the odds I would find P.superbum at any bay area nursery? Same for most plants on the wish list. Gee,I feel like I'm passing another stage in life.
It arrived from the Fern Factory in mint condition. Mounted on a heftier then I expected frame. Its outdoors now..looking good.

Re: On ordering..
I'm pretty sure I've seen this for sale at Flora Grubb in San Francisco, and also at East Bay Nursery and Berkeley Horticultural Nursery here in Berkeley, and a friend, Paul Leondis here in Berkeley also sells this occasionally through his web site/EBay. Had you checked with any of these nurseries before you ordered on-line?

Re: On ordering..
No,never checked. All are a considerable drive @$4.00 a gallon for petrol. I did consider it,and decided that's a lot of driving knowing that I really just want that one plant, not as usual to browse for whats interesting. And,that's not like me. I usually do like to just find a surprise. I have to one day make it to Flora Grub, but don't enjoy the half a day battle to get there and back. That's just on me. And as for calling..P.superbum,I have never seen for sale in 30 years at a local nursery that I can recall. Calling, and asking for it didn't seem like a good idea . Well, next time a bucket list plant comes to me..I will PM you. And thanks. Flora Grub huh? somebody told me they have the white trunked Ceroxylons too. I bet they would grow just as fast as they do in soucal,as here in old balmy Hayward. Next time David,I will keep Flora in mind. One more thing..any idea of the price? and size?
I did check ebay...very young plants. No fronds, just sheild fronds.

Re: On ordering.. IT ARRIVED!
Thanks Kev!. Its not especially water needy..in winter, almost none. Summer- just the usual spritz with a hose every few days. Never fertilized,it seems to catch this and that. I don't need to push the risk...its pretty much all I can ask. Anybody out there,or somebody named- say- Steve-,know when to expect fronds to dangle down? Are those the fertile fronds? Or do some never dangle?
