Great looking Rhodos Anne. What other Rhodos did you receive? |

Thanks, Tim. The ones in the wheelbarrow came from a different source. They are: falconeri ssp. falconeri mallotum (2) praestans rex ssp. rex serotinum sinofalconeri sutchuenense taliense I also received a macabeanum from the same source as the hodgsonii. It is a 1 gallon plant with single stem. |

Hi Anne, Nice rhodos! Are the ones in the wheelbarrow from the Rhododendron Species Bot. Garden? What is the tallish one on front row far left? Thanks! Ted. |

Ted - glad you like the rhododendrons. The ones in the wheelbarrow are from the RSBG. The "tallish one" in the front row on the left, near the yellow clip, is mallotum, as is the one to the right of it. The tall one in the back row on the left is serotinum. Here is a closeup of the mallotum, now in a pot. |

Your wheelbarrow full of rhododendrons is like a kid in a candy store. Great stuff. What are your plans with these........testing? Your in zone 6a, some are rated to 7b-ish. It would be great if you could hybridize those with hardy Rhodos |

Tim, I am a collector. My small rhododendrons remain in pots, moving up in container size periodically, and overwintering in raised bed planters. Frost cloth is used briefly when temperatures get worrisome. At some point they will be planted in the garden, but there is no rush on that. Hybridization - no. Glad you like the plants. |

Adam, I am surprised that Glendoick does not offer hodgsonii more frequently. They are a well-respected source, from what I hear. Do you belong to the Scottish Rhododendron Society? Their Facebook page, which you probably know about, is a good one. See the post from November 3, 2015 with many species rhododendrons being planted at Glenbranter. Here is the link https://www.facebook.com/Scottish-Rhodo ... 974073973/ With my hodgsonii, I purchased a younger macabeanum with potential. Here are two photos of that one. |

Anne, Glendoick often have hodgsonii in their mail order catalogue, but not at their physical plant sales bit at the garden centre. I am not a member of the Scottish Rhododendron Society, but I will have a look at their Facebook site later - thanks for the link Adam |

Adam, Thanks for the clarification about Glendoick. I would like to acquire the form of hodgsonii with the darker indumentum like in this photo, but so far my source does not have that one. |

My order from RSBG was delivered Friday 10/6/17. Instead of putting them into pots, which has failed of late, I planted them today in a raised bed. They are in close proximity now, but can be rearranged as needed in the future. Here are the tags for what I received, and some photos. The camera saw red, but the mulch and pine needles are not red. View of raised bed from above mallotum praestans pachysanthum rothschildii macabeanum See separate post "Rhododendron rex" for my new acquisition from Chimacum Woods Nursery. Raised bed |
