Re: An Exotic garden in Galicia, Northwest Spain
Thank you guys!
Kev Spence, here the ensetes does not need winter protection. In comparation with the UK winters my winters are warm, and this plants even conserve the leaves over winter. They dont grow for 3-4 months but they have leaves, which have a terrible looks caused by rain and wind after the cool months. In cooler areas other people remove the ensetes and put it in pots inside de garage during the coldest months. You could try it.
Eduard O, cyatheas are easy plants here. The biggest problem could be the lack of water if the summer is too dry (like this year). But they will be recovered with the first rains! As i said the garden is young, but my intention is to plant all the cyatheas species that i could get!

Great pics, Diego. Can't wait to see how your garden evolves. If you're reading this thread Bennz - those Ficus are your progeny!

Hello!
Stan, yes! our climartes are very similar. The fact, i choose the plants seeing which plants grow in similar climates like SF bay or New Zealand.
Josh76, correct! This seedlings are from the ficus columnaris seeds that you had sent me! They grow quickly and strong. Next spring the bigger one wil be into the soil. The others... i dont know yet.

Re: An Exotic garden in Galicia, Northwest Spain
It's amazing how Bennz's seeds of Ficus macrophylla columnaris are colonising the world!
Diego has them in Spain, Josh has them in Middlesex and I have a couple of young plants grown from cuttings that Michael Prime gave me when I visited him in Ireland - from plants that were grown from Bennz's seeds.
I also have a 1.7m F. macrophylla (not columnaris) from a seedling that Josh gave me a few years ago. It's a really beautiful shrub, with bright red sheaths to the unfurling leaves. I have it in a pot plunged in the ground. I don't dare let it loose in the open ground because of the risk of subsidence, but it's nearly hardy in London, so the plan is just to rip out the pot when heavy frost is forecast.

Good morning Diego, Great collection of plants! You're blessed with a frost-free climate that allows you to play with a wonderful selection, careful with those plant associations, as they do not all look natural. Enjoy your garden

Thank you Jose!
I would like to create a "natural" garden but now the plants are too small. I am trying to make it more dense. Next spring i woulk like to buy C. Brownii, Caryota maxima, R. Cheesmanii and R. Sapida "Oceana". I have the sellers contact.

I agree about the Plumeria. Better in pot or under the eaves of the house, backed by a sunny wall
