Cycad advice
Hello, so I came home to find there had been an accident involving a child, 3 kittens and my E. Ferox!
It is only a young plant and has had just one leaf for a long time, during the last month it has shot up a second leaf which I was very pleased about - unfortunately this second leaf has been snapped off.
What are the recovery chances like for a young plant of this species? It's back to its original leaf and a stump where the second was.

Re: Cycad advice
As long as it has a good underground stem and roots, it will eventually flush new growth. My advice, keep it as warm as you possibly can - above 25 C continuously. Cycads thrive on heat, and most love sun too, I take that back, in your latitudes, they all love any sun then can get

Re: Cycad advice
Haha yes. Thank you for the advice - I do hope it recovers, I've grown it from seed, it does have a good chunky root for its size. It's current position is in a south facing window so gets a fair bit of warmth and sun

Re: Cycad advice
Thank you, yes I was worried for some time as it was such a young plant but pleased it's sprouted again.

Re: Cycad advice
Its one of the best Cycads to care for. It takes much less light levels to do well then 95% of the Cycad species out there. It also looks different with the pleated leaves. For example- look at the deep green color of yours!

Re: Cycad advice
Like most Encephalartos it will be a giant when grown in the ground, here it is just after a flush of leaves (2015)
Even after cutting of the bottom leaves ( 2016) ...will I ever be able to walk under it ???...maybe in 2020 when I will be 80 ????
Coning happily and regularly, this is the rare yellow cone according to Loran Whitelock

Re: Cycad advice
David and Kev I am going through a bad patch. I keep trying to get a response from Dave Brown on HTUK and am being totally ignored and its got to me.
I need to use Facebook so that I can get the likes.

Re: Cycad advice
Mine is in shade..but I don't care about it getting larger in a hurry. It has full sized fronds and to trunk will take more years then I'm allotted. I do wish I could see it cone. Next spring some heavy pruning of the Podocarpus should help. Nothing I can do about the Bangalow shade.
