Japan souvenirs
Hello everyone! Especially for the participants of Japan, Tom and Scott. During my recent trip to Japan, a wonderful country, I brought some plants; Epiphytic ferns, lotus rhizomes, wasabi, and some bulbs I do not know. In the second picture someone could tell me which bulbs are the first, third and fourth starting from the left. The epiphytic ferns have already planted them in the trunks of my tree ferns (Dicksonia antartica) and I hope they acclimate well in my garden. I will put photos.
Best regards.
Mau

Re: Japan souvenirs
Sorry Mau, I haven't been by the forum in a while. All three bulbs look like Colocasia esculenta to me. They are called sato imo in Japan and are quite delicious if you peel them and boil them until soft in a mixture of sugar, soy sauce, and seaweed "tea" (dashi). The ferns are some species of Lepisorus, Lemmaphyllum microphyllum, and what looks to be some kind of liverwort. They all need high humidity to do well.

Re: Japan souvenirs
Thanks Tom, I imagined the bulbs were taros but I was not sure. I have planted bulbs in pots indoors and the epiphytic ferns are planted in the trunks of my tree ferns, later I will put photos. I am very excited to have epiphytic ferns from Japan in my garden. Do you believe that the rhizome of lotus grows in spring, at the moment it is in the water ... Regards Mau

Re: Japan souvenirs
Nelumbo, lotus, you better get from a good nursery like Nymphaion. And there are plenty near Mantova in Italy!
