Schinus terebinthifolius
Mine has been in the ground for 20 years and it is the first time it sets flowers.
Just a month ago I spotted this old one in the nearbys. These are the only ones I know of in the area.
This one in Andalucía is young but quite big.
Here is my Sch. molle with araujia and ipomoea hanging.

Re: Schinus terebinthifolius
What kind of low temperature has yours seen? I planted one the year before last and, although fairly mild, it was still completely defoliated. I dug it up and it has made a full recovery, so I wonder of I could get away with growing it as 'semi-evergreen'?
I planted S. molle in its place, which was defoliated by last winter and the Beast From The East but has grown back very strongly. I feel quite confident it will grow well now - it seems a lot tougher than S.terebinthifolius.

Hi, Paul. I think you are right, it is more tender than molle. I´m not sure, but I think it has seen minus 1º, or -2º sometimes, even when it was younger.

Re: Schinus terebinthifolius
I saw some lovely and huge S molle in Madeira and brought back some seed which sadly did not germinate. Is it difficult from seed? It was fresh seed from the trees and since everything else I brought back did germinate, I threw it away assuming it was not viable.
Julio yours looks wonderful with the Ipomoea - I am very jealous! What are those fruits hanging down? PS I love that phrase "in the nearbys"!!!!

Re: Schinus terebinthifolius
Hi,Martin: Mine grew from seed I collected in Andalucía a long time ago. I think it is not difficult for them to sprout. I can pick seeds here when they are ripe, if you are interested. Apart from mine, I know some trees which are usually loaded with them. I have never sowed them here, but I think they are viable. The hanging pods are those from araujia. They are invading the place! sprouting everywhere!

Re: Schinus terebinthifolius
There are some huge ones around here. I usually notice the smaller street planting Julio..but last year I saw one in a yard that was close to being immense in comparison to the others. I can't ever get a photo of the whole tree..only what grows above the house and very tall block wall as it borders a Supermarket on one end and business park on the other. They have naturalized in southern California...and I saw one growing out of the crown of a P. dactylifera in Hayward. Posted a photo of that a couple of years ago. I might have to repost with the new postimage.
