Post Juania australis seedlings update.
Hi everyone so I bit the bullet and purchased 10 juania seeds. All 10 have finally sprouted and seem to be doing well. One is showing bit of variegation but I'm told it's ok and should revert to green.

I'm very pleased with the results so far, the first ones sprouted back July/August and last ones just a month ago. The spent most of time outdoors but I've brought them in with this frosty weather :)

Great work James. Where did you get your seeds from?

That's great, congratulations! I have had one but lost it due to fungi.... Beware of this.

Thank you. It was either the seeds or one/two plants but I chose the seeds as I like knowing the history of a plant and gaining the knowledge of germinating and so on. I think, and from what people have told me is that their hardiness will e better as they have only grown in uk conditions.

Hi James,
Any update about your Juania seedlings? Seeds are available at rps not too much expensive... Have you any advise about the germination?
Regards

They look great
i recently saw Juania seeds for sale on Rare palm seeds but at 194 Euro for 10 seeds that could very well end up being confiscated by the trigger happy Australian customs i am not willing to take the risk !

Hi everyone, sorry for the late reply - adult life takes over

The Juanias are doing well! They will be a year and half old from seed now and just approaching their second winter.
The seeds were quite simple to germinate although I didn't get mine from RPS and I'm not sure how fresh they are. My seeds were sent still within fruit and I had 100% germination at room temperature.
I used seed compost with added grit and sand for drainage at first but otherwise they are just in standard compost from the garden centre.
They definitely grow better in slightly cooler conditions and slowed their growth in the middle of summer.
While I was away briefly they were under watered and a couple dried to a crisp - I was gutted as they looked dead but I decided to leave them and one has started to regrow so tough little guys!
