Last year my neighbour bought some ginger from the veg stall in our local market. When some of it started sprouting he planted one and gave one to me. His died but mine grew and is pictured below. He used it in his cooking but said it didn't taste of ginger!!! Am I right in thinking this is furcraea? And if it is, does anyone know of any culinary use for it? It seems bizarre to me that this was sold as ginger on the market, although the bit of root given to me did indeed look like a piece of ginger. |

Yes, Furcraea selloa 'Marginata'. I didn't know of any culinary or medicinal use and a quick Google shows none. How bizarre. I hope you have a big greenhouse... |
