Lovely plants. It always amazes me what will grow along the Welsh coastline with the warm Gulf stream. It also surprises me how few Welsh gardeners seem to profit from this and how few gardens are open to the public. I notice that along the front at Tywyn they have been a bit experimental and planted aloes and opuntias in the outdoor planters. However, it looks like the seagulls have been feasting on the cacti. Come on Wales, let's see some exciting stuff - I have seen cordylines as good as those in Cornwall in some front gardens. There also used to be a lovely CIDP outside a hotel in Aberdyfi but I think they have got rid of it!!! Likewise in Tywyn there is a cottage which had a really stunning Trachy but the new owners have chopped that down as well. I wonder if they know how much palms of that size would cost to buy? |
