Re: Braided willow
That's lovely and the image of the mature tree is spectacular. I wonder though if the lattice work risks being lost as the trunks thicken and grow together. The image of the mature tree suggests not, unless it was planted with huge spaces between the individual trunks. I have never grown one but it looks like it would make a really nice patio feature - until it grows too big.

Re: Braided willow
Hi Deane
I saw very similar ones for sale in Homebase this week. I think you'll find they will be quite high maintenence as they will sprout new shoots all up the trunks (the ones in Homebase were already doing this), so you'll have to keep rubbing the new shoots off to keep the integrity of the shape. But it will be worth the effort.
I'm currently making a living willow yurt / wigwam / bender, call it what you will, for my neice. We are on year two, the fun part is weaving all thge new shoots into the framework (framework was made with my bamboo canes!). However the not so fun part is dealing with the top of the structure where most of the growth is occuring, it's hard to reach right up there (has to be done from the outside).
I'm sure the one you've bought will give you a lot of pleasure, it looks great.
