Viburnum tinus Trunk Fungi - What's going on here?
Probably not the most interesting post ever, but I was wondering if anyone could give me a bit of advice regarding a very old V. tinus that has had fungi growing around it's base for large portions of the year. These come out in profusion pretty much every time there is a downpour, like there was last week.
Does this shrub need removing? I think the fungi is a Mycena species of some sort, so would presume that there is a lot of rotting material down there?
There is a musky smell in the vicinity of the shrub, but it's also covered in viburnum beetle larvae so it could well be that. Or it could be coming from a different shrub entirely, not sure on that one.
But yeah, can't decide whether or not to just start again with a new shrub in it's place or whether it's still got many years ahead.
Thanks for any input!
