THANK YOU for the effort required to restore the photos. Forgive me for resorting to a banal Americanism, but YOU DA MAN!

Good job, Kev. The photo essay goes some way to capturing the essence of the place.
1. is a large colony of Aechmea recurvata, one of the smaller varieties such as benrathii or ortegesii. We are more used to seeing smaller numbers of rosettes!
12 is Gunnera insignis. Arguably the most handsome of the genus.
Edit - The Azores. Specifically Sao Miguel. I went with the fernies earlier in the year - quite a place. Reminded me of Teletubby land - a weird landscape of bumps that are so green you would imagine them to have been photoshopped. Ryanair go direct so it is much easier to get to these days. Nearly all the endemic plants have been swamped by invasive aliens - in particular Hedychium gardnerianum. Almost impossible to believe until you see it how such an ostensibly inoffensive plant can do this. Cyathea medullaris and cooperi (but mainly medullaris) naturalised all over the place. And a couple of the best gardens I have seen anywhere. Re-defines 'heavy rain' though. I should post some pictures - I'll start a dedicated thread at some point.

Kev great pictures thanks for sharing. I hope you have given photobucket the boot. They even tried to screw me for the few pictures I had hosted from their website.

Staggering place full of treasures and moments of great wonder -hard to think of a garden anywhere near Tregrehan's class. How ironic its next door to The Eden Project -a triumph of marketing over substance.
