A tale of two Ficus.
'Variegated' and 'Ruby' The Variegated is in ground, the bought years later Ruby is in the pot. Ruby has much more reddish new flush of leaves that tend to stay red right until winter. I can only imagine in a tropical climate its two-tone and one tone is that nice deep red. Ruby is faster growing. It was a 3" potted plant 4 summers ago. The other is at least double that- or more. Ruby holds up better to cold also. So for Ficus lovers everywhere..
Variegated..slow to get over winter,or being pruned I notice. So,prune only if needed is my advice.
Ruby. Not like having a rare Cycad or Orchid, but still lots of eye candy.

Re: A tale of two Ficus.
Stan, you seem to grow every imaginable type of plant. How big is your plot? BTW on a previous thread of yours you mentioned a plant new to me: Huperzia. Well I eventually managed to source one and it's doing well. Will keep you posted.

Re: A tale of two Ficus.
Thanks Martin. The plant world is so great,I knew I would never really specialize on just one type. The bay area is a funny climate. Its actually one of the coolest Med climes in the world. Look at this and what it does to plant variety.
A Tropical native,Ravenea rivularis and in the back ground? a Monterey Cypress!...a tree happy at 55F all year.
Keep the Huperzia roots ALWAYS moist, and FERTILIZE. They like it!..don't waste years thinking its like a Brom or Tillandsia and gets all its nutrition from the air or a couple of rotting leafs-lol.
