Largest bay area Mango tree. Plus more..
Its been 27 years since the big freeze of 1990. So,the largest tropicals tend to be under that age. This Mango on the other hand was planted around 2010/2011..and in less then 7 years grew from a 3' stick (google maps,Bruce street,Fremont ca) to this tree you can walk under. Now,it seems that this tree flowers very late in the growing season THAT means it spends all its spring to end of summer in growth mode. Maybe that's the key? What also helps is its in one of the warmest microclimates. It was 85f and no breeze there, while in Hayward,a 15 minute drive away it was 80f and with a bay breeze. So,the breeze is good for people, but hotter is better for Mangoes. This is also on a hilly rise...drains cold air. Maybe frost free most winters. A warm 10b.
Bangalows on the same street.
Echinopsis tercheckii also same street.
And close by an Avenue of palms,I would not doubt at all Royal palms can grow here.

Wow. What a difference 2 growing zones can make... really incredible plants there. Nice!

That Mango is pretty close to the equivalent of a commercial quality fruiting Hass Avocado in Downtown London. This tree has fruit the same as the larger yellow types (Autalfo) that are sold in Markets. Plus..just the dense unblemished canopy. I do my best, but I haven't gotten that perfection on mine. But,I do have a few fruit on it..a couple might be the largest I've seen so early in the year. Justin- its all relative. If Hayward was 2 full zones warmer,I would have metallic looking Anthurium's climbing Bread fruit tree's in my backyard!

Yes, the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence... or in this case the plants are neater in the next zone up!
