Different chorisias?
After winter, both of them are setting new leaves. This one shows more green leaves, has got 5 to 7 leaves ( more sevens) and only a few prickles at the base of the trunk.
This other one, instead, shows more darken leaves, has also got 5 to 7 leaves (more fives) and the trunk is all covered with prickles.
Insignis, Speciosa, Chodatii? So far, they haven´t set flowers, because they are still young and, I think, they won´t, because our lack of heat.

Re: Different chorisias?
Julio, The tree with the trunk covered in spines is Chorisia speciosa. I think it has red flowers. There is a very large specimen in a garden on the coast near Nice. I have a photo of it somewhere. The trunk of the tree had large sharp plated spines which resembled a tanks caterpillar tracks!. Never seen anything like it before. The tree should do well in your region if you have the shelter of a warm wall for warmth. Have not come across the other species, but your other photo looks like Chorisia insignis. Think it has yellow white flowers.

Re: Different chorisias?
Hi, Laurence: I do agree with you. I´ve been searching in internet, in Spanish forums, and it´s kind of a mess. There´s not even agreement in flowers colour, since there are so many hybrids around.

Re: Different chorisias?
They flower here (C.speciosa) and our yearly average is a tepid 70F or 20C. Even that one species varies. I've seen them full of thorns and seen others with no thorns and a ethereal green trunk.

Re: Different chorisias?
Julio I found the "smooth" trunks in my folders.
I have the thorny trunk one in bloom someplace...

Re: Different chorisias?
Thanks Stan. That´s a big one. They grow quite fast too. I like the liquidambar in red behind. The two worlds: cold and hot at the same latitude close together, nice!
