Dwarf Chinquapin Oak
We are based in Ontario and obviously, it is starting to get hot as the summer is up. But it hasn't been too bad, however, our new has been struggling for the past couple of months. The leaves have started to fall and some of them turn brown often. I need a little help in finding the possible cause of this problem and also a solution that can hopefully be implemented to turn around the issue. The tree was planted back in August 2016 and the watering schedule is- 2x daily 10 minutes. I also have two other trees on the same spot which are doing fine and thriving. Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

Re: Dwarf Chinquapin Oak
Hi Alene,
Might be a wild guess but it could be a problem with it's roots. See if the tree isn't loose in the soil and if it has a healthy root system. If not, dig it up, prune dead or rotten roots, improve the soil with fresh compost and put it back. Maybe even do a soil test if possible. Sprinklers are nice to have, but I try to use them not that often. My experiences are that plants develop a shallow root system when watered regularly, but the top of the soil dries out fast in summer and the plants can't reach the moister soil that's deeper since they haven't developed a deep rooting system. Mine are set for 2 minutes a day if it's really hot and dry, but they haven't been on all week and it's in the 75F / 25C without rain.
If possible: post some pictures of the tree in question.
