Palm hybrids
Snapped a few shots of my Butiagrus (Butia x Syagrus) whilst out and about a few days ago thought I would share.
This small palm looks quite dainty this is another hybrid Jubutia (Jubaea x Butia)
Anyone growing similar?

Re: Palm hybrids
Looking very sexy. I've got two butiagrus plantable size. But they are staying in pots. I am not as brave as you. What are you feeding them? They are flying! If it's the seaweed fertiliser I am going to start taking more blurry pics.

Re: Palm hybrids
Mo.... if it helps I have had good growth on all my plants with Miraclegro lawn fertiliser. Won't make your pics fuzzy either Kev... Love the Butiagrus. My one and only attempt with this was way back in 2009. Nigel acquired some from a grower in Florida and had very little frost resistance. I guess they have bred in some cold resistance now but realistically still to cold for me here in the coldest place on earth Where did you get your plant from?

Re: Palm hybrids
Andy mine came from Amulree and is one of those from Florida. 2009 did a number on it. freezing all the leaves off. I dug it up which saved it 2010 and it has grown less elongated leaves which *seem* hardier than the previous leaves it has been out around 4 years now. The new spear is pushing 6ft high now lets keep our fingers crossed for another mild one!
EDIT This is my fav palm hybrid at the moment Trachycarpus nanus x T.wagnerianus

Re: Palm hybrids
Looking good Kev. After seeing the big UK Schefflera's no telling what growers find will thrive. Even hybrids.

Re: Palm hybrids
Thanks Kev for the prompt to post a picture of my Butiagrus. I see yours is building a slim trunk and I think it has taken on a look that is more queen than butia.

Re: Palm hybrids
Cheers Jim hardly a broken leaf on this palm compared to my T.nanus a few feet away, granted not as windy as Florida, but we do get some gales.

Re: Palm hybrids
Great looking palms, Kev. Loving your Butiagrus, and also yours too, John.
I visited the gardens at Abbotsbury yesterday. I used to go several times a year, but this was the first time I'd been for a few years. Thought I'd show their superb Butiagrus and how it has grown. My photo does not do it justice and it really is a thing of beauty. It's now high on my list of plants to try and acquire!
Here it is recently planted back in Feb 2011:
And again in Sept 2013:
And now in Sept 2017:

Re: Palm hybrids
Fantastic hybrids. I would love to be able to buy Butiagrus in New Zealand and i do not know why no-one does it. It could be planted all around the country, instead of just in the north.
