White Erythrina.
White forms of;
Erythrina crista-galli
and Erythrina herbacea
Are available in .
Has anyone any experience of them or know of a UK supplier?
I have the red forms of both. They are both winter hardy here, but need the heat of the poly tunnel in summer to flower well.

Re: White Erythrina.
Wow, I'm surprised that Woodlanders, PDN, and various other southern US nurseries never offered these. Especially the E. herbacea. But I've certainly never seen them. I have seen a pink one for sale.
FWIW have struggled to establish E. herbacea and E. zeyheri over the years; even though at least one of each are known to me down in Washington, DC. Finally got a E. herbacea from Woodlanders to really size up this year in a spot that will have protection from winter rain, and hope it has enough mass built up to survive until next spring. Years ago Silverhill offered E. zeyheri X E. humeana hybrid seeds that grew very vigorously. Sadly it didn't survive the cold 2003-2004 winter; however I dug it up the next spring and found it had formed a potato sized tuber. Now wonder if I kept that a little warmer and drier, like next to a house wall, it might have survived. It's seeming like the only way to keep certain subtropical or dry climate plants alive here is growing them against my 1 story house, which has wide overhanging eaves, and watering them to whatever degree they need in summer. Then they will stay dry enough in winter.

Re: White Erythrina.
Yes Chad, I know a bit about the story of the white flowered E.crista galli.
A friend of our society( SFA : french society for acclimatazing plants), Anselme, got at last 10 seeds of this unusual form of Etrythrina from South America. He shared the seeds, kept 5 seeds and gave the 5 others to a nursery man in the South-West of France. Anselme only got usual red coral trees, and the nursery man was more lucky with 3 white flowering plants. I saw 2 plants in a French exhibition, one was erect and the other more bushy. Here is a pic :

Re: White Erythrina.
Pierre,
That is really interesting.
If I can flower both crista-galli and herbacea in white form I'll try to produce a white bidwillii.
But, my seed set on the normal coloured forms is zero so far, so it might take a while!
