After 15 or 20 years,Schefflera arboricola is in bloom.
I was shocked- to see it in bloom. I think it took our hottest summer ever to do it. Amazing,it had been in stone that these dont bloom in the bay area- even if the shrubs can get tree sized. Mine I cut back hard twice over the years or so..then decided I would not prune it this year. I understand they set showy orange berries...we will see.

Stan... You are not showing a pic but just image to click on. My online security does not like that Charlie... that is a nice pic. Where was it taken?

Hi Andy,I used GOTES in house uploader,Postimage. I see my photo's. I don't know what more to do. Charlie, thats the one. I was sure we never get warm enough for them. Another "fact" proved wrong.

Has it ever taken some cold ? This species seems rather hardy because I can see some specimens in protected spots in my area (zone 9 / 9B).
Last year I planted Schefflera venulosa which took minus 5°C with only defoliation. Here is the plant 6 months after the cold-spell. The growth isn't fast.

Thanks a lot for the reply. Here close to the Mediterranean, our Summers are longer, the maxima are the same or even lower than 20 years ago, but the nights are milder. Some plants flower earlier than they did : my hakea laurina has already begun flowering, 3 weeks earlier than it did, I've even seen an Aloe arborescens in bud which usually occured by mid january.

This change is probably linked with higher ocean temperature : the average temperature of the Mediterranean rose more than +1°C within a century. Tropical fish like barracudas are often caught in nets. The main problem is hurricanes, drought and forest-fires. Were you threatened by forest-fires ?

No,no problems here but for the smoke and Red sun in the evening. Its November Pierre and I feel like moving some things around. I cant hibernate from the yards until spring, even with the tropical leanings.
