outback trip 1
I just finished an 11,000 km trip around half of Australia in a clockwise direction. firstly here are some no-nonsense washies in Mildura, Vic
Here are some shots of Port Augusta, SA at the head of Spencer Gulf
Heading up the Stuart Highway into arid terrain we came across several salt lakes in the vicinity of Woomera:
Then it was time to visit the biggest salt lake of them all: Lake Eyre, going by way of the Oodnadatta Track
The country was mainly mulga scrub, which is a type of acacia, or just open grassland. Some eucalypts were found along dry watercourses.
We arrived at the town of William Creek, which only has a pub and a few minor buildings
As we approached Lake Eyre the black rocks looked quite forbidding
We arrived at a bay in the lake called Halliday Bay. It is the only part of the lake's edge accessible by road. of course, the vast extent of the saltpan can't be seen from ground level.
Next time we head up to the Red Centre as we cross the border into Northern Territory
