THATS a great trip.Love the Lycopodium too mixed in there. Here,we are having near record warm,22C a bit warmer tomorrow. Despite 2" of rain this month, the hills havent greened.

Excellent shots Paul its nice to get a flavour of the islands its on the list. I hope there were some warnings of possible slippy steps. Those cycas are monsters almost look like palm trees till you spot the leaves at the top

Re: A trip to one of the Azores
The internet friend who lives in the Azores has posted Aechmea broms that have naturalized in the shade of a forest of naturalized Pittoporums. Maybe P.eugenoides or that type. All grow here if you water them all summer. But,those Gunnera and tree ferns? wow. I think he did mention Tree ferns..I didn't envision that

Yes, Kev, you would absolutely love it there.
Stan - it is Pittosporum undulatum, another invasive alien there. Albeit a rather pretty one.
Anyway, more to follow, including a few pics (too few - it was hammering down!) from the garden Terra Nostra.

Re: A trip to one of the Azores
A couple of other gardens. Firstly José do Canto - the same chap as the other garden. I guess Azorean botanists are thin on the ground? In one picture you'll notice the sky had a really odd blue colour to it in small patches... this place has two main routes, we didn't have time to do both. Two of us went to the waterfall, the rest to Fern Valley - I made my choice on the basis that I had already seen a few ferns this trip but not too many waterfalls. As it turns out, the fern valley was spectacular - one of many reasons to return. Still the walk to the waterfall wasn't too shabby.
A a very few shots from the garden Terra Nostra. It was hammering down the whole time we were there so it was almost impossible to take many decent pictures. Shame, really, as it is one of the finest gardens I have visited. You are greeted by a massive Metrosideros when you walk inside the gate - the pic shows about half of it. Then a steaming thermal swimming pond - a sensible place to be as you couldn't get any wetter!
I look forward to returning one day. It might even be sunny!
