outback trip 3
Travelling north along the Stuart Highway we came to Barrow Creek, which is really just a roadhouse.
Then came the first coconut palms at Wauchope Roadhouse, some distance short of Tennant Creek
Any keen restorers out there?
a dust devil or willy willy
Now we come to the real tropics at Katherine

Katherine River and croc sign, though "salties" only make it this far upriver in the wet season.
thermal springs
next time: Katherine Gorge with its native Livistona palms

Fascinating pics that I have enjoyed viewing Phil. One question... would you prefer to live in this part of the world or back on the east coast?

Andy the Northern Territory is too warm for me. In the Centre we experienced an early heatwave to about 40c but Katherine was the worst because it combined the heat coming up from the Centre with humidity coming down from Darwin

Really nice Phil. Just going over all the rest in full screen. Like I'm there. I have to move to Australia when I hit the lotto. Just a high standard of living on a whole continent of warm to tropical and...no evil country has a single missile aimed at Oz. What else can I say? Great pics of fantastic foliage plants. Some grow here, some only in pots and none with that tropical speed.

Re: outback trip 3
We'd love to have you, Stan. Katherine might not be the greatest choice unless you like torrid heat and humidity. I was there at the worst time (early November) and the conditions are insane! Average high is about 100f at this time but with stifling humidity.
