Re: Some winter colour at 43ºN
Interesting information on ficus seeds. I hadn´t ever heard that. I´ll pay more attention next time. Does it happen with other species of ficus? Mine started to set seeds some 6-7 years ago. They are kind of brown reddish ,like those of macrophylla. I haven´t paid attention to their hardiness, but I think they are rather stiff. I thought you should break the seed and sow the tiny seeds inside instead. With species that are difficult to propagate from cuttings, it is interesting, but with macrophylla, australis and some others, I prefer the cutting method because it is much faster. The 2 mt. long branch I used as a cutting, saved me 2-3 years of growth. I don´t know why I have always liked all ficus trees, specially superba var. pubescens. There used to be one in a nearby city. I´ll try to take a picture from a paper photograph I last took in 1998.

Hi, Bennz: Do you think this seed is viable? It is an old picture and I don´t remember if it was soft or not.

Re: Some winter colour at 43ºN
Hi, Bennz It is a seed of the macrophylla I showed in pictures. Now I understand why It didn,t sprout. Yes we can get seedlings of macrophylla here in Spain, Big ones, actually and not very exprnsive. Actually, mine was bought in Valencia. But, I prefer the cutting method. It is quite easy with this Ficus at least. Thanks, very informative your post.
