John Lavranos RIP
News reached me today of the death of John Lavranos. He was 91. Scholars and aficionados of succulent plants will know of John, whose contributions to the world of botany are immeasurable after achievements in the field spanning some 6 decades. Here is a link to a short biography:
I consider myself fortunate beyond words to have met this charming, entertaining and knowledgeable man on several occasions when visiting the Algarve. Always generous with his time, his plants and his stories this picture captures the ever present twinkle in his eye.

Re: John Lavranos RIP
Sad to hear Paul the link you posted was really interesting to read. Expensive to travel but when you can walk round Somalia and Angola botanising with no restrictions on importing plant material it sounds good fun.....the good old days! Condolences to his family and friends
