cold snap
Hello everyone! Surely many of you think that in Madrid it is not usually very cold, it is not true. From November to March it is quite cold, it is a continental climate. Right now we are in a cold polar wave and the minimum temperatures are announced this week by -6ºC and the worst is that the maximum will be between 2 ºC and 4ºC. I live in the mountainous area and there the temperatures can be a little harder. This is a video today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nyek6Apg1-E&t=18s Best regards Mau

Re: snap cold
Mau, it looks like my garden this morning. Temps not as bad here, right now around -2 with a forecast of 2. I agree with Kev, how do you keep your broms from dying in that cold? I hope things warm up a bit for both our gardens!

Re: snap cold
We get a serious winter attack next week, minus temperature can drop below -10ºC, with a chance of a few ice days, we did not expect this anymore, it's high time for spring Eduard.

Re: snap cold
California turned cold also. 10f below average day and nights. I still held on to a 10b winter at 35f (2C)...but the night after night of 30's has worn some tropicals foliage. Better worn then burned. Even down to the San Diego border its been in the 4C range. Wild swings is right. I also 2 days ago read some weather site that sounds a little Gonzo and going on their own computer models say that early March would be warm. THEN, today.. I see all the others are saying rains and cold March rains. We were having such a nice February and end of January before that. Three weeks of warm..is now two weeks of very cool.

Re: snap cold
Hello guys, at the end I suffered a cold wave with minimum temperatures, measured with infrared thermal gun on plants surface, of -6,4 ºC. I'm scared for a Cyathea medullaris baby planted on the ground, and for the Cyathea robusta ,Cyathea cunninghamii , and Heliconia schiedeana in a pot. Bromeliads I have lost several Aechmea lubersii. I keep my fingers crossed as we are having another wave of cold Siberian.

Re: snap cold
If that is for a short time -6ºC it will just go when it is 10 hours or longer the plant will die without protection!
Eduard.

Re: snap cold
Snow in Rome. I avoided freezing but not frost. My Nanners dont look too good. Next level of tender plants are ok..Brugs. After a wildly above average two weeks of February, its been so cold that we are down to about average for the month. Is it just me..or is the climate like a driver who's car front end is so unbalanced, that the car pulls far to the right suddenly, and the driver (ma nature) over compensates wildly pulling to the left..hoping to get to the historical average. Soon,no matter what she does...average down the middle wont be possible.

Re: snap cold
Warming cables covered with insualtion. Ready for whatever the next couple of days bring. I don't think it will go below -7, but don't want to risk it.
