Post Cold damage :(
It may be a bit premature posting this as we are not out of the woods yet, freezewise, but the damage from the constant cold of January, and the last cold blast in particular, has become pretty evident.

First the good news: after losing an asplenium in a bad freeze a couple years back, I replaced it with a Kyushu native species recommended by Tom. This guy seems to be doing just fine.

Likewise, Platycerium bifurcatum was able to come inside on the worst days so he's feeling fine

Cyathea medullaris is looking very rough :(

Cyathea cooperi, in its sheltered spot, looks like about 85% of its foliage is fried

This is the first time I've seen real damage to Dicksonia foliage. Most likely because this is in one of the more wind-exposed spots in the garden

Flickr Scott Photobucket has been gone quite awhile now it caused huge problems here.
It looks like you have some heavy damage on some of your ferns how does the centre of them feel ....mushy is a bad thing!

I think your C.cooperi has done well considering the other ferns that might well have croziers pushing now

I don't think they are mushy yet but I just went out and everything is covered with snow again!!! It never ends! If there had been anything in the last 20 years to indicate we should expect a winter like this I never would have planted Cyatheas outside!

Yeah just some burning on lower fronds that appeared after the recent freezes but it will definitely be fine :)

Ah well, I only saw the DA. Photobucket is pretty much useless unless you fork over the ridiculous money they want per year.

I promise I’ll look at flickr when I get a chance. I think I tried it once and the iPhone app was terrible...
