Mail order nurseries
I want to add some interesting/exotic looking shrubs to my planting this spring Have had a look at the Burncoose website and there are some good potentials. Had a look at CGF and that's mainly smaller perennials.
Can anyone suggest some mail order suppliers of unusual and interesting shrubs etc.
Thanks

Re: Mail order nurseries
I can suggest Brighton Plants- http://brightonplants.blogspot.co.uk/ there is a good range of unusual shrubs, many that thrive on chalk or by the coast. I'm sure you've probably looked at PGP and Crug, which offer some choice rarities mostly new intro's... I'm sure if you've been scoping Burncoose you can stretch to those two nurseries, ensuring you take out a second mortgage.

You could also look at Shady Plants in Ireland. I have bought ferns from them.

Re: Mail order nurseries
A supplier I would use with caution is 'Tropical Britain'. A good friend of mine, who happens to be one of the country's leading agave buffs, bought an agave from them and, when it arrived, it wasn't the species advertised. He sent me pics and also to agave experts across Europe to confirm his suspicions before writing to say it wasn't the plant he ordered. The reply was patronising in the extreme - something to the effect of having the
'biggest commercial collection of Agaves in the UK! Literally hundreds of thousands of plants...when I hear stuff like this from enthusiasts it makes me want to give up!'
Enthusiast! This is a man who has identified most of the reserve collection at Kew!
Caveat Emptor.
