Our smallish Jub spear pulled after the poor winter. It has sent up some new spears earlier this month (although all show some winter damage still). I'm hoping it can reciver enough to get through this winter, although I may give it rain shelter to try and keep the worst of the weather off. |

Hi John. Min low -17,2 Celsius last winter.Palms protected when very cold.Cold period is 2-3 week in January. I think Jubaea have not big problem with cold /chilly/ summer/. This year here chilly May and June and Jubaea produce 7 rollover new leaves.Firstly !! Perhaps also because it is already very well established and stabilized. Regads Josef Czech republic |

Nice Palms Joseph. I had problems in the uk with Jubaea. I gave the Palm to Bournemouth Town Council to look after. Nearer the coast, I thought the Palm would stand a lot better chance with the help of the Atlantic Gulf Stream. I didn't account for last winter's weather though. Could you please tell us how you wrap your Palms in the winter as I have wrapped my Palms with limited success. I have now given up on half hardy Palms and now grow Trachycarpus but some of these Palms are half hardy too . Thanks Jerry |

I suspect that much of Josef's Czech Winter is dry cold and when it snows there is no moisture penetration ..a killer in our warmer maritime climate. A Czech friend I work with certainly bemoans our climate as she prefers the warmer sunnier summer climes back home and is use to dry cold winters with plenty of snow. Josef would you prefer the UK maritime climate (cooler summers/milder Winters) or a Continental climate? |

Hi Jerry I send foto later. Andy I would prefer our climate, if only the winters with the minimum of -8 as there were in 2007 a2 2008th. Rainfall here about 380mm per year max in spring and summer. Regards Josef |
