Talking about the preservation of the crown, I have devised a systheem to bind the crown well so there is no contact between crown and bubble Foly of the tent in December, this is've gone well up to now retain all right! Kind of "roll off net systheem machine", I used a shrinknet just what they use to pack Christmas trees, And what you need to roll up [length], it went well but it was not long enough and had done it in 2 times, it loses length by going in width! By bending down the pins you pull it upwards, the tube is Fleksibel so that goes well over the crown, January 2017, Eduard. |

Hi Eduard! You are a mixture of Dutch gladiator and mystic of the tree ferns. Do not change, still like this. Mau |

I would chuckle. Except I was out there in 2015 building a structure around the Mango that also looked like a plastic tower and at night sort of a work of art as i put a spot light under the covers to warm the tree. By 2016 and this year,it was large enough to handle winters with only some singled leafs. I also put some potted plants on a seasonal migration. Low winter sun means I put plants on taller stands or of course just move them into sunnier areas. Hayward is still a climate on edge. We haven't closed the gap to tropical. I can tell you Eduard you picked a tree fern worthy of that effort also. I've seen these large with magnificent crown of fronds and some have gentle curved coconut like trunks. C.medullaris can do a Coconut palm like grace better then other palms. |

Oh my that construction is simply massive Eduard congratulations on your wood working skills and no fear of heights. I am sure the fern will look fantastic when unveiled that Cyathea is certainly growing on the edge. |

I think we need to start a new board called "Over the Edge". Clearly, efforts like this deserve that treatment. |

Thanks for the nice comments last week the drag started again! There are three in which I dragged the last time, namely the D.antarctica D.fibrosa and C. australis. They are too heavy and become too high for the winter garden [ tied up ] I have put them in the ground at the familiar places where they grew excellent, with a little trunk protection [next winter] must definitely succeed, we'll see how they grow from now on. D. antarctica 7 years in the same pot, And the fern hung again to free him from the pot, C. australis, And finally the 21-year D.fibrosa, Eduard. |

I know the feeling..but they were so great as old container plants. The D. fibrosa was a "12" when the others were potted "10's". That green patina of moss made it its own bio environment. I have to dig up my C.brownii or soon I wont have a C. brownii. |

Well, if you can grow C. medullaris in the ground in Holland, then why not Dicksonias?! All of your ferns are exceptional specimens - a true testament to your growing skills. |

Hi Tom thanks, these are the hardest species for my garden, and have no root isolation, nor tent, they receive a alternative protection next winter. Eduard. |

Hi, two weeks ago I released a lot of the tent to prevent excessive temperatures in the tent for the C.medullaris, there was then still no leaves on the trees and to avoid burning it so I let it sit for a while, Last week we had suddenly 23ÂșC here and everything grow fast and I could free the crown of his net, the crown remained green but a little crumpled! there are three major new Crozier's bigger than last year, so it does had a good reason to keep the crown!, Eduard. |
