Post Re: Rhododendron rex
We got to 30c yesterday and I wondered about scorching on the big-leafers on the US eastern seabord where temps were so much higher. The temp here quickly dropped to 9c overnight and it's a chilly 15c (about 59F) today.

I guess that galactinum is too over-loaded with Grandia and Falconera to handle that kind of heat. Sort of a catch 22 as more shade means less chance of budding.

Rather strange to be standing in 30c looking this afternoon at a friend's pronum, one of the notorious heat & humidty haters.

The big Rhododendron rex ssp. rex in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia being dug last May for the move to the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens an hour or more away.

Originally grown as (rex ssp.) fictolacteum KW #4509 that code was later determined to be rex ssp. rex.

Beautiful indumentum. I've seen some wonderful Arizelum with similar undersides. Orgasmic :D

Bureavii x pachysanthum. A branch fell on it last year and had dissected it, hence the close up

From Jens Birck's Copenhagen garden today, 'Great Dane' selfed. 'Great Dane' is (yakushiumanum FCC x rex ex Tue Jorgeson) so this is the F2. A volunteer in his garden. We have the back-cross 'Great Dane' x rex ex Tue Jorgeson which are also fine-looking plants.

Our rex back-crosses are flushing again, cool and moist enough for that, we may just get a third flush this year as a July flush is usual.

john - +17c & overcast.

John W. - excellent. Are these Rhododendrons in Jens Birck's garden or your garden? Thank you.

Mo - Here two plants from clementinae seed collected at Glendoick in 1981.

This big one is clearly a clementinae hybrid, 2 pix.

And this is the true clementinae, a bit of luck to get a pure clementinae.

Sorry to hear about your bureavii x pachysanthum and hope you can nurse it back to health. Should be spectacular.
