Fantastic growth George. Congrats!

All I need is another fast growing Sphaeropteris type Cyathea to lug around!

No, I was wrong about the early 'Alsophila' ID - it is from a Mexican spore sample, but is clearly a rapid growing Sphaeropteris type after all. As was the aramaganensis. We're no nearer a reliable Cyathea ID than 'Mexican tree fern', I'm afraid!

No doubt know, somehow, i am quite pleased to know it's a Sphaeropteris in the end! I have donated 2 speciments to the south china BG, and they turns very well!
The aragamensis is in the second batch of spore germination, sowed only last August, and it's only 3cm height with 3 true frond now.

It's time to update the misterious tree fern, it has unusaully dark scale with distict sphaeropteris characteristics as it develops.
trunk forming stage is coming soon :D
Steve, I'm curious to know how is the parent speciment in the UK now :P ?

Here's the parent fern that provided the spore for George's healthy looking youngster. This is just the top portion of the trunk - it's massive!

Great Fern George, looking really good, I am surprised at the growth rate, its no slouch.

Here's my C. Mexicana sporophyte's greatly contributed by a member of this board (Thanks Trevor) hopefully it's what they are supposed to be, sowed on the 1st June 14.

The lastest frond quite resembles it parent now. May I know how old is this in the photo?
And here is the another offset, the parcific spp. Cyathea aramaganensis, a year younger than the mexican brother,

Hi Peter, yes, it's much rapid than you have expected when you have not pludged into the propagation :D .
Mexicana is actually a alsophila spp. it's too young to distinct it from your stage, hope to see the development.

Actually now i am much enjoyed the sphaeropteris scale than the fine pinna, because it will be a problem if it grows too fast, this pot is indoor :D

Long time no update for this, this 'mexicana' is now nearly 5 years, and it grows spore this years.

Time flies fast, but some thing will not change, like this 'specie'. A tribute to Steve Pope.
