Not sure if anyone's growing this Rhodo, but I think it would look great in an exotic garden. Here's a pic of mine. It's only 11" tall, but the leaves are already each 20 1/2" long from the stem. Quite incredible. Foot for scale. |

very nice. there are a number of "tree" rhododendrons with large impressive "magnolia like" leaves (macabeianum, rex, grande, falconeri, montroseanum, basilicum, calophytum, etc.) and often impressive flowers, too----IMHO great associates with schefflera and fatsia and similar plants in a "subtropical"/exotic lush look garden---sheltered from excessive sun, wind, and drought (most being "rainforest" type plants). |

I so agree with the Schefflera Fatsia association. Mines not got the biggest leaves but is starting to settle in now. You reminded me to go outside and check on Falconeri which I often forget I have as it's hidden in between plants. That's just opening now. Everything in my garden seems so far behind everyone elses due to the shade methinks Sinofalconeri has really lovely foliage and beautiful buds. I often regret not having this when I had the chance a few years ago. What's life without regrets |

I bought one to replace one lost in 2010. Mine is only about 18 inches tall but had two flower trusses on it this year. They really are lovely and I have seen large specimens of this in Cornwall - the leaves are magnificent but when the flowers are out the whole thing is simply spectacular. I too have falconeri which has flowered for the last couple of years. I think those yellow and cream rhodies are stunning but whenever I go to Bodnant, I fall in love with so many others. I just don't have the 80 or so acres to accommodate them. I must learn how to put photos onto the computer so that I can show some of the plants which have done well for me but the last time I tried, Mr Matzdorf had to mess with them as they were too large to view. I don't want to risk his wrath by doing it again! posting.php?mode=reply&f=2&t=9512# |

A shame, that this one has never been crossed with Rh. rex, or if so, these are never available. |

One of my favourite Rhodos but be warned, you'll need plenty of room as it's huge when fully grown. Check out Tregrehan's for the eventual size. |

Having had this for several years growing in a pot, it is now planted out along with some other foliage interest Rhododendrons in a raised bed of ericaceous compost (those who remember will know my garden is over solid chalk). I think this might be just a short term prospect for the plants are growing fast and I don't think I will be able to keep up with their water requirements; rainfall here is woefully short (purchased from Millais Nurseries online who specialise in Rhododendron) |

you can't just say that and disappear into the shadows again Grenville. At the very least lets see the rhody bed and the other rhodies |

Got one via mail order from Cally Gardens earlier this year and very pleased with it. A great deal at £7.50 too! |
