Re: What's your plant of the moment?
Monstera fruit that ripened. Sort of a Pineapple-banana-apple mild flavor. I wont be starting an orchard of this. A year and half to form. I could have waited longer..but then the chance of rot rises. We are not the tropics.

Japanese Egg Plant flower. Even their eggplants seem exotic.

Re: What's your plant of the moment?
A couple of seed grown things that I'm really happy with;
Rehmannia elata is proving to be very long blooming..............
Bulbine frutescens............
You can't help but smile at Dracunculus vulgaris.................
Diplarrena moraea is usually one of the highlights of the year but this year I have but the one bloom. This miserable spring caused it to say sod it and I'm less than happy.............

Rehmannia elata is something I remember having and liking then I can't remember when it went, I must try and get it back, seems to like a light woodland if I recall. If you have a seed surplus Keith please remember me!

Got mine from Shirly Clemo at Pine Lodge gardens, it was under conifers in a light woodland setting and the patch was many yards across, I suspect you are right and the trees were keeping the ground from getting too wet in winter

Conifer debris is the best mulch for anything borderline'ish in my opinion. Overhead they provide a great canopy and the roots suck the soil dry. A real bonus all round for anyone trying the limits out.

Re: What's your plant of the moment?
My plant would be one of the Calanthe hybrids, that are flowering in semi shade right now. One of the brick red and yellows. Sorry, no pics possible at the moment. Btw conifer needles, they have proven to be an ideal substitute to peat. Regular mulching with them creates a fine acid humus layer around my Camellias and Rhododendrons. Saves money and resources!

What's your plant of the moment?
If you have LOTS of pine trees, you can have a carpet of them, which I especially like.

Red flowered form of Hydrangea serrata, called kurenai ajisai in Japan. Dainty little plant with shocking crimson flowers.
