Post PM alert
Any ideas as to why I am not getting emails to notify me of a new PM? I don't always log in to read the board, and as a result, may have unread messages waiting for me that I am unaware of. As happened this morning.

And yes, I have checked the box requesting that I am sent an email to tell me!

Had a pm e-mail notification this morning so it may not have been down to our settings but was a problem with the phpBB board.

I don't think I have ever had notification of a pm...regardless of what type of computer I'm using...my e-mail is a hotmail.

It shouldn't matter what your e-mail address is, nor your ISP, nor what kind of computer or OS or e-mail program you are using. The board software has no idea about any of these, it's just capable of sending out an e-mail to the registered e-mail address when someone sends a PM. Once it sends it, that's it. It's obviously not sending them reliably.

There's a box to tick in your profile if you want e-mail notifications when someone sends you a PM. I have mine ticked and it's been weeks since I had an e-mail notification, during which time I have had a number of PMs.

The problem is not at the individual members' receiving ends. Something is wrong with the board software that needs fixing.

P.S. I'm pretty certain about this, but I haven't the technical skill to fix it, so can we stop trying to diagnose people's individual systems and find out what's wrong with the board? Ta.

I gather that a new member sent me a detailed PM over the day or two. It didn't arrive at all.

I'll ask John whether he knows anyone who could do it. He might volunteer, but it's more likely that he might know someone else. He spends quite a bit of time moderating the other site.

He visited me here a few weeks ago.

Kentgardener aka John is in IT bit I thinks he is running the new forum which I think you are a member of David, what do you think, is he worth tapping up for a little technical no how now and again.
He is suposed to be visiting our garden, coming up on the train from London, where I could ask him but no fixed date as yet.

Is this a private conversation or can anyone join in?

Hi Kev and Dave,

I don't know the answer guys - technical support isn't my area of IT!

There was a similar problem when I was moderating on HT so Aido may be your best bet to try:

http://www.hardytropicals.co.uk/forum/v ... f=2&t=4568

Aido fixed it on HT but I am not sure what he did to achieve this.

Regards

'he'

aka John

p.s. I am not running UKEG - I'm a moderator over there like you are here.
