I have been gifted a "Leitz Pradovit Color" projector which is working well and I thought to keep as a standby spare projector but it does not have its control cable. Does anyone know any web sites selling spares for these old projectors? (probably 1960's) or indeed how the control cable works ( I may then be able to cobble something together) I am reluctant to give up on it as the quality is much better than my normal projector If it helps this picture of the rear shows the round socket for the control cable on the left. I don't know what the name is for this sort of round socket |

It looks a bit like a DIN socket (Deutsches Institut für Normung), the German standard, widely used internationally, including use for "MIDI" connections in music studios. If so, it should be easy to get an appropriate lead for it. If not, a reasonably resourceful electronics repair shop should be able to remove the socket and rewire it to a modern fitting. |

Thanks both, Kev yes the second one down is very similar, I think I have a slightly more up market version but I would think its the same controller, but everyone wants to sell the whole thing and several don't have the control cable! David, yes after posting I managed to work out its a 6 pin din, I can get bare plugs and seperate cable on-line, but can't find anyone selling spare controllers. Never having seen the controller I am not sure if it had batteries in or not or whether the power is supplied via one of the pins? My local electrical bits shop has closed siting internet competition!! I will just have to keep my eyes open I would prefer not to solder on a plug myself as I think "Chicken shit soldering" would be a good discription of my normal handywork |

is a picture of the controller Charlie but obviously I am not sure if that is correct or the ones in the other link below. As its a German make I would try their e-bay site and have cables not sure of the exact type you need..........happy hunting! |

Huge thank you for the first link, its not quite the same model but the controller looks as if it would fit. How on earth did you find that link? Unfortunately none of the german ebay sellers are selling this, only timers or focusing controls but my projector has that built in, what it doesn't have (and I have never seen this before) is any means of manually advancing the slides with out the controller attached, you would normally expect a button somewhere! Edit I have just gone back and looked again as this did seem daft and found a tiny black button which does this so the thing is now usuable as an emergency spare projector. I am not an Ebay person and I looked in vain for some means of emailing the sellers to ask if the had what I wanted, is it possible? Anyway thanks again at least I now know what to look for |

Charlie, that's called a "DIN-Stecker 6 polig" in german if you should browse E-Bay sites.Keep in mind, besides your standard size plug/socket there's also a "Mini -DIN-Stecker" (Stecker=plug) It doesn't look like a 60 ies model to me though. Theses DINs were in use till the 1990ies afterwards there came the cinch plugs. What you have was made mainly for audio uses and also for TV sets before the recent SCART sockets were introduced. So your projector was built before 1990 and I hope after 1983, when the new slide magazines were introduced. I would strongly recommend you to get a new control for it, since I doubt there have been better projectors available ever. You got a real gem there. If you don't get the original thing by LEITZ you should try to find somebody who is a making one for you, that means who can change the plug for you, which is very easy to do, with only 6 cables. Oh and It would be vital to know the exact model, since there were several different Pradovits. EDIT: I googled P.Color and found an old user's manual in german: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wik ... -Color.pdf Is this your projector? If so, it was built from 1974 onwards and the thing you're looking for is called "Fernbedienung" (remote control). It looks quite different, from what Kev has found. It's for adjusting the focus as well as advancing the slides. |
