Digital Projectors?
I need to change to digital projection, I occasionally give talks to garden clubs and have a slide projector but have found it increasingly difficult to get hold of the slide film so last year bought a DSLR camera, very pleased with the pictures but at present I can't use them!
So as I am not Alan Titchmarsh and don't charge a huge amount to give talks I was looking at something like the Epson EB S02H which seems to retail at around the 240-250 GBP mark but the spare bulbs are 140 GBP ish and I wouldn't be happy not having a spare. (Why are the bulbs so much more for these projectors compared with slide ones?)
While looking at all that I noticed a LED-33 projector for just 130 GBP which claims 25000 hours bulb life?
My question is, does anyone here use the cheaper LED projectors and is the picture quality OK? (ie does it compare with an old fashioned slide projector)
I suppose I normally project onto a 5' square screen (occasionally more) and can chose the distance, normally evenings so I don't need to project in bright light

Re: Digital Projectors?
Charlie, unfortunately you picked a technology that is for some reason a step back in terms of progress. My opinion is that these projectors are not better than the old analog ones but only more expensive, given you look only on the purpose you want to use it for. (showing films is something different)
But the industry forces us to go this way!
The resolution of such a projector is not as relevant as thought and is usually only a marketing argument. More important is the DISTANCE, as if viewed from too close ANY projector will disapoint.
Good projectors are unfortunately very expensive, so I fear a cheap product will be a waste of money, as I have never used anything for my business presentations under a couple of thousand €€. Bulbs are expensive solely, because of so called "price policy", there's no other reason.
Btw, if the audience is small, you can view your pics on a TV, too. There's onyl a special cable necessary to connect your DSLR with the (flat) screen. Uusally it comes with the camera.

Re: Digital Projectors?
Thanks for the comments Steven, I would have stuck with slide film but found it increasing hard to source, then my SLR was aging and needed replacing so I had to make a decision about what new camera. Very happy with the DSLR I now have but it has meant that I am getting a lot of images I can't use! I will still use my slides for talks but any new talks it will have to be digital.
I have discovered that a good percentage of clubs now have their own digital projectors, but if they are anything like their analog counterparts, reliability and familiarity will be big issues. There is nothing worse than being hesitant or getting distracted by the behavior of the projector!!
