[rant] Since 2007, I've been hosting my photos on Flickr, which saves them in various sizes, any one of which I can link to for the purposes of embedding images in my posts here. At some point over the past year, they redesigned the whole site, not incidentally making it very difficult and counter-intuitive to do this. I think (based on articles I've read, not just speculation) that Flickr had become so left behind by other apps, as a result of not making use of the 'social network' and 'community' aspects of its services, that it was trying to force people to use and view the photos within Flickr, as opposed to viewing them from external websites. Well, now they appear to have eliminated access to those facilities entirely. I spent a half-hour trying to figure out how to escape from my photostream/gallery and view my images in a way that would allow me to capture their URLs for a link in a post here, but I couldn't find any way to do it. A query to their so-called 'technical support' yielded the expected 'fish/bicycle' response, largely ignoring my query and replying that they do not offer this feature. Well, they used to, so where has it gone? Does anyone else here use Flickr and know a way to get around this redesign? I just need to get display my images in a way that enables me to capture the URL of the actual image, as opposed to the URL of a page in Flickr that displays multiple images in succession. If not, then I'll have to do the very tedious business of finding a new hosting site, uploading and sorting out thousands of photos ... and eventually closing my Flickr account and amending 30+ old posts here, because they won't link properly anymore. Any recommendations for alternative image-hosting sites are welcome: preferably simple, single-purpose sites, not elaborate file-sharing communities. I just want a place to upload and order my photos, not an imitation of Facebook. Thanks. [/rant] |

Hi David I recently joined Flickr only to be able to post images in this forum and have almost given up ... I really don't like the design and find everything very confusing! |

I think I finally figured this out, but the new system for doing it is very cumbersome. You display your image in Flickr's slideshow format. Then you click the curved arrow icon to get to the 'share' menu. Then you select 'BBCode', because 'HTML' and 'Link' don't work in a GOTE post. Then you select the size you want, from the drop-down menu. Then you copy and paste the code in the box into your post. And it looks like this: by , on Flickr |
