records shattered in Sydney heatwave
Many records were smashed this week: 7 consecutive days above 30c in the city Richmond, in the Sydney basin, had 7 consecutive days above 35c 3 consecutive nights above 24c in the city A record minimum of 27.6c on Sunday morning 6/2/11- the hottest night ever in Sydney. It was still 33c at midnight. The hottest daytime temp was 42.2c at the airport on Saturday 5/2/11, but this was nowhere near a record.

We do have some restrictions but they have been eased in the last couple of years (we went trhough a very dry period from 2002 to 2008)

Re: records shattered in Sydney heatwave
Here our coldest month is February and we are having temps around 12 C which is very good indeed as we certainly need them. No water restictions for years now in central UK but some other areas did have them last year.

Re: records shattered in Sydney heatwave
We normally start seeing temps increase somewhat in February, but we're on a cooling trend right now. Forecasters are predicting this to last for some time. Good to see someone has some heat. Cheers, Barrie.

Re: records shattered in Sydney heatwave
It seems the heat has returned briefly: last night had a min of 26c at 6am.
btw my previous figures were understated a bit because I typed too soon. It ended up that there were 5 consecutive nights above 24c in the city; in the inner western suburbs there were 7 consecutive days above 35c and in the outer western suburbs thee were 8 consecutive days above 35c.
Athens is certainly a hot spot, Dave, going by those figures.

90°F and humid isn't nice ... 90°F and arid is quite liveable. Always appreciative of night time cooling.
Cheers, Barrie.
