The heat appeared to reach its climax today with 49.6c recorded at Moomba, SA. It was the hottest temperature in Australia for 15 years, but monsoonal cloud combined with a southerly change should allow a gradual cooling from now on.

45.8c today was an all-time record for Observatory Hill. I never thought I'd see the day....

I think this is the last of it. The interior is not as severe now because monsoonal cloud is starting to drift down from the tropics. Yesterday was just the last of the hot air being squeezed onto the east coast ahaead of a southerly change.

We may get 150mm of rain tomorrow as Oswald moves further south, after causing so much havoc in Queensland. The garden will be grateful.

We've had about 30mm of rain here with more to come, but up the north coast of NSW they've had major flooding. Mount Seaview in the ranges behind Port Macquarie had an incredible 415mm in 24 hours

Although the nights are getting cool, the days have been unusually warm this week, reaching the high twenties. After two inches of rain last Saturday, things couldn't be better (luckily it was much less up in the Blue Mountains where I was walking in that recent video).
It's expected to return to average temps over the next few days.

We're expecting 100-200mm of rain over Sunday-Monday as an ECL forms. Not looking forward to it.

This pattern set up today. Classic example.
Highs were 95F/35C in Boston, even though the average is 78F/25C
but...85F/29C in Wilmington, North Carolina, even though the average is 91F/33C

In our case, the low was further south than expected, so the heavier falls of 100mm+ were between Wollongong and Batemans Bay. We have had some heavy showers but it hasn't been as bad as expected.
Sunday to Tuesday was the coldest three day period for 31 years because it failed to reach 14c at Observatory Hill.
Interesting that Boston is hotter than Wilmington for once.

What kind of temperatures do you expect now this days and forecasted days?

I'm planning a trip to Australia next year, and a visit to Sydney included of course. I need to sort out a lot and need to work as well but the first signs would be from May till September/November. The winter time in Australia but, if I look to the averages for a winter there and the times you post the temperatures above average I need some shorts as well. :)

It looks like you'll be here largely in winter and spring.
Winter is nice in sunny weather because of the low humidity and westerly breezes. It can reach up to the low twenties sometimes after cold mornings. When the wind turns southerly it is not as pleasant; although the air is maritime in origin and not that cold, it can feel raw, especially when accompanied by cloud and rain.
Spring is the driest season statistically but is rather unsettled and changeable. I suppose in our mild climate it doesn't really matter when you visit, but I would say spring is probably my least favourite season. Sometimes the coldest day of the year can be in spring, but it could also occasionally reach the low thirties.

This has been the warmest July in history in terms of maximums. It has averaged 19.4c whereas it should be only about 16c
