The first six days of July have failed to reach 17c in Sydney for the first time since 1997. A high over the continent has been directing SE winds and cloud onto the coast, causing low maxima. The inland has been opposite, with clear skies and very cold minimums. |

Well, it reached 22.9c at Observatory Hill today, way above the average of 16c at this time of year. Tomorrow it will drop to 19c, so closer to reality. |

For the third time in 2 weeks, winds caused havoc with widespread blackouts in Sydney. Peak gusts were about 80 km/h; comparable to last weekend but not quite as strong as the weekend before that. The maximum was 29.2c, which would have to be one of the warmest August temperatures on record. |

This morning was the coldest of the year, and the coldest September temperature for 17 years: 5.5c was the minimum at Observatory Hill. |

33.2c at Observatory Hill today and 34.1c at the airport. I think the September record for OH is a bit over 34c. A change is on the way: Adelaide will only be 15c tomorrow and Melbourne 14c |

We're on track to break a 105 year old record for drought for the months of August and September. Cheers, Barrie. |

Last Friday's snowfall in the Blue Mountains was rather remarkable for October, being 15cm in the highest town, Blackheath 1,050m asl; being maybe the biggest fall in a decade or so. In Sydney it stayed at 10c from dawn until early afternoon, then eventually bounced back to a max of 16c at 4pm as the coldest pool of air moved out. |

Northern Australia has been sweltering... Brisbane reached 37c yesterday and Darwin 36c today. By contrast, Canberra bottomed out at +0.3c, the coldest December morning ever. Similarly, Goulburn -1c and Braidwood -0.4c were December minimum records (these are all highland locations). |

A severe heatwave is hitting southern Australia, especially the inland. For instance the forecast for Woomera SA is 44c for tomorrow, then 43c, 45c, 46c, 44c, 44c and 41c over the next week. Adelaide will reach 44c tomorrow; Melbourne 41c; Canberra 37c and Hobart 39c |

Looks like bush fires are going to be a big problem I just hope the idiots who light some of these are locked up somewhere. I have just been watching the news from down under and 47c was mentioned for Sidney just 3 c off the the all time 1960 record high now that's seriously hot! It feels warm here with 11c over night temps but nearly 50c......phew!! Best of luck Phil hope you have enough water to keep your plants alive. Looks like is under threat of fires too. |

It ended up 42.3c as a maximum a Observatory Hill today. It's still 36c at 9pm, but a southerly change is due to arrive in a few hours. |

Today's heatwave turned out to be a fizzer due to the early arrival of a southerly change. It only reached 31cin Sydney, but the heat wasn't too far north: Taree had 42.9c and Kempsey 43.9c Bourke in the northern inland had 48.2c, the hottest yet for NSW. |
