I previous had a ; in my opinion, Trewartha's modification of Koppen system is a vast improvement. Living in a place like Sydney is quite different from living in Vancouver, BC. doesn't happen in Sydney! But I found an even more minimalistic system that will really make you say WTF. http://www.diercke.de/bilder/omeda/sieg ... 2_2008.pdf So, Banff, Alberta - 240 cm of snow per annum, avg. low in winter of -14C, is the "same climate" as never-had-a-frost Durban. Yeah. That makes sense! Everything about the natural world tells us that yearly thermal averages have very little to do with what grows or lives (in terms of animals) in an area. So, let's go make a climate classification system based on just that one factor! And people in the SW UK will be pleased to know their climate is the same as southern Siberia. That must be why tree ferns grow so well in both places. |
