What's your plant of the moment?
Hi All Hopefully this posting isn't too crass, but........ With May being such a fantastic month for things getting into growth/flower, I got to wondering what everyone's favourite plant might be in their gardens right now. Perhaps we can share some pictures of the things that make us smile. I'll start the ball rolling with my Gunnera manicata, I think it's the best its ever looked this spring, it must be a result of the very wet winter we had. I particularly like Gunnera just as the leaves are opening, i.e. now. (hope I've kept the stinging nettles out of shot!) I'd like to hear about other peoples favourite plants right now. Adrian p.s. I'm not mentioning my flowering Cordyline indivisa for the moment

Re: What's your plant of the moment?
Thanks for that Steve.......I'm in shock now, for years I've called my plant Gunnera manicata as that was how it was sold to me, and I had no reason to doubt it. Dare I say there's hardly much difference between the two I shall go and have words with my imposter plant right now (and study it more closly), but I still love it whatever it's called! I'm pleased you've pointed the mistake out to me, how embarrassing it could have been if someone who knows their onions had seen it and asked me the name! Adrian

Great Keith, I don't have any of those plants, I especially like the Corydalis, such a nice fresh colour

Daphniphyllum macropodum looks great this time of the year with it's new flush, so does my Loquat. I love this time of the year when all the new growth pops up. I'll take some pictures tomorrow. Your Corydalis looks stunning Keith. And how could you not post a picture of your Indivisa Adrian?

No pictures I'm afraid but Crinodendron Hookerianum does it for me.

Stuff is doing its thing out in the garden, I just haven't been out there with a camera in a while. Will post some pics soon.
Keith, that Corydalis is beautiful indeed. I get lots of weedy types in the garden here only. Is it a true perennial or more like a biennial? I saw this species or similar one in the yak meadows of northern Sichuan a few years back and fell in love. Alas, too hot in these parts for them.

This Vresia is the one. Its called "Highway" not to be confused with "Highway Beauty" that is a variegated form. Hardy for such a tropical looking brom. No cold since 2008 or 09 since I bought it has done a thing. Slow to pup and grow into a bloomer..but worth the wait. I did more looking. Its a descendant of V. bituminosa, native to Rio- Bahia in Brazil and to 3,000' altitudes. Home to jumping spiders. A strong grower in nature and in the tropical garden. As I said, here its a bit slower paced.

Well mine actually finished last week - Magnolia Athene. To me the most stunning, elegant and deliciously perfumed of them all. Some years hail gets it as soon as the flowers open, other years it is late frosts but this year it took my breath away and each day for a week after work, I raced to the bottom of the garden to enjoy its beauty and bury my nose in that exquisite scent. It's one of the gardening moments I live for.

I don't really have that much space at the moment but currently this's taking up most of it...

I would love to try that Magnolia here if it'd fit.
