Re: Tree ferns after 40 years
A late spring update, through the rain most ferns grow exstreem well this year in combination with groundwater, am very pleased also with the rapid growth of large C.medullaris, now working on frond number 7. D. fibrosa, makes his final year on that place, the leaf hits the shade cloth ceiling, Photo, 6 - "16, Blecnum species flushing nice, Blechnum nudum, Blechnum gibbum, Blechnum brasiliens, New Caledonian species also have a new crown, Photo's 6 - "16, [Bottom right ] creeping C.dealbata slowly coming up ! C.atrox var. atrox and C.brownii var. go well after a lot of pruning the shrubs, The pruning of the roots of the C.australis has been successful, the frond is getting longer and darker green, viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9298&start=15The D. squarrosa is also going well again grow after drying out last year 12 new leaves, The C.cooperi / revolvulum should also get a larger container, the frond remains less, in the foreground the new flush of B.tabulare, And the beautiful colored leaves dryopteris erythrosora, Polystichum vestitum also comes back nice this year, The D. antarctica should have more light, in the autumn I have to prune the big tree, it takes all the light off and so I can not use 1/4 of my garden for the tree ferns !, An image of the greenhouses and the last piece of the garden, And the last picture of this series, C.medullaris busy with frond No. 7 Photo, 2- 7 - "16, Eduard.

Re: Tree ferns after 40 years
Nice Eduard. Great to see the medullaris still thriving. No doubt one of the largest and nicest in your region. I love the Polystichum too - very distinctive. It is funny how easy it is to pick out that crown of fronds on the D. squarrosa - they have a very definite appearance. You really grow TFs well.

Re: Tree ferns after 40 years
Thanks Mau, I work with a lot of passion with the tree ferns Here is an update on the special tree fern species, The D.blumei doing good, there is a big difference between summer and winter leaves, winterleaves are grow much bigger, The C.robusta now makes more volume and look nice, until next year he will remain in the conservatory, The C. cunninghamii stays within, these stops growing once it comes out! Will first have to be larger, This beautiful tree fern species D. lanata I have from a British tree fern friend end 2015, Now starting to grow nicely and also a little reddened, [The Brainea insignis did not make it, too much breakage during transport] C. spinulosa working on his trunk height, And finally the C. Howeana which I took over from Bart now doing good, Eduard.

Eduard, you are the man! Love the hairs on D. blumei - that's about as fuzzy as you can get. I'm guessing the D. lanata is from Steve P. He was a generous man and is sorely missed.

Re: Tree ferns after 40 years
All looking fantastic Eduard ... love that Cyathea howeana!
Good to see the Dicksonia lanata growing so well. I read recently that the two varieties of lanata are now considered to be subspecies, so it seems your plant is now D. lanata ssp. hispida ! (see and )
Sorry to hear the young Brainea insignis didn't survive the journey ... unfortunately the plant here hasn't produced any spore yet this year but you will be the first to know if it does!

Re: Tree ferns after 40 years
Thanks Tom, George and Chris, I'm happy with the D. lanata ssp. hispida, beautiful fern that wil not be too large in the future , and of course the C. Howeana The spores of the Sadleria are germinated well, next week I'm going to put them greater in the propagator, and make some pictures. @ Tom every time I write something or read on this forum I think about him, a great loss... @ We wait and see Chris I had already indicated to stop sowing spores after the Sadleria's but who knows! Eduard.

WOW, Gefeliciteerd! Really nice fern collection, and well cared. I wasn´t able to 'surf' for now, trough the 23 pages of this tread. Do you have any of the treeferns [xaxins] from South Brazil/
