New Growth on Rhododendrons
Arturas - very nice photos of 'Dominik' and the similar rhododendron. Thank you for posting them.

Re: New Growth on Rhododendrons
I've heard it said that R. 'Teddy Bear' is a shy flowerer. Not so if given the full sun it requires as shown here in coastal Nova Scotia this past Spring. Splendid new foliage, an added bonus. Virtually all the Taliensia species & its hybrids need sun as well.

New Growth on Rhododendrons
John W. - I am envious of your beautiful 'Teddy Bear' rhododendron. I would presume your climate is more conducive to such spectacular foliage and blooms. Where I live it is hot, humid, windy, etc. I try, but don't have that kind of luck with 'Teddy Bear.' Limey water does not help the situation. Congratulations. Anne Rhody +93 degrees F (34 degrees C)

Re: New Growth on Rhododendrons
Lots of wind here too as we're stuck out in the North Atlantic. The climate - 56" of rain, 112 days of fog, cool summer nights around 65F and below, a rare & very hot day is 88F, the fog saves the day for rhodos and the Gulf Stream helps too as does the acid soil. Here's a rex Berkley x rex Quartz.

New Growth on Rhododendrons
John W. - temperatures below 70 degrees F are what I prefer. My garden evolved as a result of wanting rhododendrons regardless, and I have to deal with the situation, and sometimes plants that are less than specimen quality. Very nice picture of the rex hybrid. What is the primary tree cover you have there?

Re: New Growth on Rhododendrons
Not many trees in the garden where the rex is growing in southern NS, those native trees nearby are white and black spruce, white birch, some red maple and witch-hazel. Non-natives are chiefly magnolias.

Lovely Teddy Bear. I opted for hydon velvet. The last flusher in my garden is Makinoi

Re: New Growth on Rhododendrons
R. makinoi is a little tricky to grow here on our really acid soils, it oftentimes requires a shot of lime as does schlippenbachii. Otherwise a superb species.
