Re: What's your plant of the moment?
Hi All A couple of months ago I noticed some unusual leaves growing in the lawn. I thought they might be bluebells and decided to mow around them and see what became of them. Slowly a flower stalk started to appear and I soon realised they were no bluebell. Imagine my pleasure to finally see the flowers open and discover that they are bee orchids! and I've probably been mowing them off for years. I was just thinking what would have happened if I'd TRIED to grow bee orchids Happy gardening Adrian

Brilliant Adrian what a great story and a fab plant like you say you would probably not be able to grow them if you "tried". We have some orchids, Dactylorhiza, that keep randomly appearing in my fernery from 2 bought plants nearby I have tried to grow them from seed but no chance.
My stand out plant is this tiny Trachelospermum asiaticum "Summer Sunset"

There's some great colours in that plant Kev, will look fantastic if it spreads to cover that area more.

You are so lucky Adrian and I am very jealous. I have just moved house and for the shadier areas bought from Edrom Nurseries at Hodnet Hall plant hunters fair last week a batch of Cypripediums. However, none are as lovely as your "freebie"!! Perhaps you will get more of them in time. Beautiful.

That's fantastic Bill, huge flowers. It's amazing what you can pick up at places like Lidl. I just bought two nice specimens of Musa Basjoo (£4.99) from B and M's....now I just have to think of somewhere to plant them!

Re: What's your plant of the moment?
The Baileys Mango that always tells me "Any colder and I'm done' is fruiting this year. It skipped last year, but did put on about 3' of growth. I think this year with fruits its going to lucky to add 1'. This has been a good summer, looking like its going be in the 23C range. But,I think they really like it more in the 29C range to really grow and fruit at the same time. Southeast USA and Texas and Southern Cal's better climates. Its about 8'+ in height. Since planting in ground around 2011 or 2012. The fruit are sweet- thats what keeps me trying extra hard.
I thought this was just a good photo of it.
