Re: Just leaves.
Couple more - 5 - Schefflera multinervia 8 - possibly a Buddleja? 14 - a Roldana of some sort? 18 - Senecio confusus As you were 18 has already been IDd. And it wasn't a senecio...

Re: Just leaves.
Good calls Paul.
2 is the Dahlia aff tubulata; or aff pteropoda or sp. nova or [not yet formalised] .
4 is Schefflera taiwaniana
5 is a Schefflera, I have it as S.enneaphylla. I don't think multinervia is supposed to do the 'second ring' of smaller leaflets thing.
14 is indeed Roldana aschenborniana. I repeatedly failed to grow it from seed and was very glad to have 'a bit' from Tom to get me started.
29 is a Calceolaria, we are growing it as Calceolaria pavonii.
Last set of clues, I'll put up all the names on Sunday [or Monday if I forget!].
1. Is the most impressive blue flower I grow.
7. Is a bad picture. It isn't a glossy leaf. Same species as 12.
8. Herbaceous. Marred in the autumn with yellow flowers!
17. The only Dahlia I grow with this sort of leaf.
25. The picture must be really bad given the suggestions as to what it is! Hardy herbaceous perennial. Perhaps too 'fluffy' for this board. Inedible despite its name.
28 we have already said is a species Begonia.
There must be 'lurkers' who recognise these.

Re: Just leaves.
1 Salvia cacaliifolia? 7+12 Hydrangea aspera Gongshan Purple or "Hot Chocolate" 8 Inula magnifica 17 Dahlia foeniculaefolia 25 Anthrisus sylvestris Ravenswing
I was looking forward to the Dahlia tubulata determination! Originally it keyed out to Dahlia pteropoda before I had access to the key that included Sorenson's new species of D. tubulata Interestingly Sorenson himself assigned material collected by Hinton to this species that was collected just over the border in Nuevo Leon.

Re: Just leaves.
Thanks Mark,
To confirm most of those.
7. Hydrangea aspera 'Hot Chocolate' 8. Inula magnifica 12. Hydrangea aspera 'from Gongshan' [and still in the polytunnel]. 17. Dahlia foeniculifolia 25. Anthriscus sylvestris 'Ravenswing'Was the picture so bad to mislead so many?
1. Is clearly a Salvia [in that I've given you square stems and blue flowers!], does another picture help?
28. I thought was one of the easy ones!
Chad.

Re: Just leaves.
Sorry Chad, will take issue on Inula magnifica.
Great big yellow flowers, great fun!! mine are just opening alongside Aconitum, Eupatorium and Sinacalia tangutica. May not be gardening on the edge I know but certainly makes a statemet!! (in my mind at least).

Re: Just leaves.
No apology needed, I'd much rather know than continue in ignorance!
It came as Inula magnifica and self sows enough to be just annoying.
Do you think it could be Inula racemosa?
Googling seems to show both species with both names!
Chad.

Re: Just leaves.
Hi Chad
Oops, I wasn't questioning the naming, more the comment about flowers spoiling the look!!
I understand Inula recemosa carries flowers all the way up the stem. Mine, which I believe is Inula magnifica has flowers at the top of the stem only.

Re: Just leaves.
That's fine. I agree context is everything, have you tried Vernonia fasciculata with them?
The 'missing' names are.
1. Salvia patens 'Giant Form' This isn't 'Guanajuato' which is shy to flower here, but a form from which is significantly more floriferous than the type as well as being more robust.
28. Begonia sizemoreae

Re: Just leaves.
Late to the party but I've enjoyed having a gander at the luscious parade of leafage Chad. So what's the scoop on Dahlia foeniculifolia? Have you flowered it yet? How large does it get? Hardy for you? Google gives precious little information...

Re: Just leaves.
Hi Dahlia foeniculaefolia grows to about 1m and does not tolerate frosts. In the wild it grows at low elevation (1500-1800m) and so sees no frost and low Winter rainfall. This group of Dahlias are not suitable for UK gardens in that they need low rainfall and increased light levels to flower. However they are great greenhouse pot plants and combine fine foliage with large pink flowers.

Re: Just leaves.
Thanks guys. More's the pity that it doesn't have any hardiness having such fine foliage, perhaps it would be useful for breeding with hardier forms to impart a bit a bit of that foliar featheriness to offspring.
