Rarities from PanGlobal
I have been on leave this week, and dawdling back from London I managed to turn North instead of South onto the M5. Pretending to myself that I had done it on purpose I detoured to see Nick at .
As always I found things there that are not in his online catalogue and that just had to be tried in Cornwall.
I had gone to ask about Buddleja speciosissima, since thank Nick for having sourced it for them [see their diary entry for 8.6.16].
He had a row of nicely established small plants, one of which has come with me.
Buddleja speciosissima
The other great excitement is Lysimachia paridiformis var. paridiformis.
Lysimachia paridiformis var. paridiformis.
Now I have to make and admission here. Nick set of by telling me the virtues of this variety over the 'more widely grown' var. stenophylla. I nodded. Fewer and wider leaves in the rosette. I nodded. I have to admit I had not heard of the species before let alone been able to enter into a discussion of the merits of the botanical varieties.
It is a wonderful plant though. And comparing it to pictures of var stenophylla it is distinct.
I think the above may be the first pictures on the internet of this variety.
A serendipitous mistake at the motorway junction.
Chad.

Re: Rarities from PanGlobal
Quite possibly the worst excuse for going there I have heard! But congratulations on the Buddleja, I will look forward to hardiness updates.
Nick has the most amazing setup and selection, I am often frustrated by only getting there when our van is packed solid with plants because we are heading to a plant sale somewhere and have on more than one occasion had to sit with a large pot of something in the footwell by my feet. (the return journey with available space is too late in the day to call in)

I rarely go home before 7pm Charlie! Usually later.
Good luck with those Chad. I'm sorry to say I have posted pics of the Lysimachia on Facebook, though they never show up on Google of course. I imagine the Buddleja will be likely hardy with you. The Lysimachia is hardy here.

Re: Rarities from PanGlobal
I visited last week Nick and unfortunately you were not there. Amongst other things I bought Pittosporum tobira but not your common and garden type but "tall and tough" that I have been searching after for a long time. One question Nick... are they seed grown or vegetatively produced? They certainly have a polished look on the leaves. I've decided to grow it on in a pot to achieve the tall part before I tough it up outside and try and keep them damn Deer away from it. Pittosporum "tall and tough"

Hi Andy. Sorry to miss you last week, but I was enjoying the sunny Pyrenees and Costa Brava. The Pittosporum are all from cuttings. Hope you do well with it.
